Black Folk and Their Insane Appetite for Religion

I want to first talk specifically about rappers, R&B artists and other entertainers, and their twisted views of religion. Most of them wear religion on their back like an article of clothing. They wear it one day and the next day it’s in the dirty clothes hamper.

Some of you are seasonally religious. You go to church religiously on Easter and Christmas while shaking your ass in the clubs off secular worldly music the rest of the year. Other artists find it comforting to thank Jesus when they receive an award on the tube to appear humble and spirit conscious. This outward show of spirituality is just that, a show, after all, they are entertainers there to perform. For the life of me, I can’t seem to figure out why most of you rappers, who are anything BUT Christians seem to run to Jacobs for a “bling-bling” Jesus piece. First and foremost, Jesus himself was totally against graven images (not to mention the unnecessary adornment of jewels). If you are a Muslim, a Jesus piece is definitely forbidden so why are all you Five Percenters, Nation of Islam Muslims, Sunni Muslims and the like wearing them? You do yourself a disservice by adorning symbols on your bodies for the purpose of style. It reflects not only your ignorance but also a blatant disregard for your own spiritual beliefs.

Before you engage in the practice of any set religion study it thoroughly and use a little deductive reasoning. They all cannot be right because that would mean that god is the author of confusion. To do this you have to first, improve on your reading comprehension skills. And for gods’ sake, Mary, no pun intended, it’s not “indicted” its inducted.

Another aspect of this insane behavior is a minister like Hezekiah Walker, Kirk Franklin and all of you other neo ministers in custom tailored “clown suits”. Stop condoning these artist behaviors just for the sake of a drop on their next album. Kirk Franklin doesn’t know if he wants to be St. Michael or P-Diddy. He does "the shake”" better than some of these young kids. Gods’ music should not leave room for its interpretation as gods’ music or secular. You can’t be a Christian today and tomorrow you’re going to court with P-Diddy for sake of improving your press. Any member in your church that refers to bitches as hoes, and allows them to wear ungodly clothes in their videos, while talking about balling, slinging dope, and hitting switches should not be in your congregation. You’re either a progressing Christian or a regressing one. You can’t go to church every week talking about getting over your alcoholic addiction and leave the church every Sunday for the bar. God does not work like man. If you’re trying to get your spirit in order your actions will personify that. You may slip and fall at times but you won’t break your neck. People stop falling for these ministers with emotionally laced sermons geared towards moving you to action; action straight to the collection basket. They throw in a few amen’s, thank you Jesus and a mean swing low, sweet chariot re-mix and they got you thinking they received their doctorate in theology from Morehouse (which even then, does not make them a good minister, only a good speech maker).. Some cannot even read well and depend heavily on remembering scripture through song. You might want to ask some of these preachers, imams, and priest why they believe what they believe. Most of them will probably say something stupid like:” my mamma was a Baptist, or my daddy was a muuuuuslim.” By the way, Baptist, Pentecostal, and thousands of others are not religions. They are denominations of Christianity. So when someone asks what’s your religion don’t say Episcopal. Give the religion, not the denomination of one.

Here are some classic signs of hypocrisy and ignorance:

If you denounce playing numbers and gambling and go into your local deli to play lottery chances are you don’t know much about your religion. Most religions across the board forbid any form of gambling (even if it is Atlantic City ). Just because the government “legalized” it does not make it morally right. Whoring (prostitution) is legal in some states, but, you wouldn’t necessarily bring one home to your mother as a candidate for marriage.

If you believe that, there is a difference in a white lie and a black one, then you need to brush up on your Old Testament reading.

If you need another religions’ holy book to support your own ideology, you are just as confused as the first day your mother tried to teach you how to tie your shoelaces.

If you believe in something just because…, well I don’t have to explain that one.
And for all of you Muslims who believe that you will be in heaven with beautiful girls getting lap dances, wake up!!! Somebody threw that in there so that they could justify sending you on kamikaze missions. Think about it Einstein, if you can indulge in carnal sins in heaven wouldn’t that lead to lust envy and covetous behavior? Heaven is a spiritual realm and cannot deal with things of the flesh.

If you believe people are resting in peace (r.i.p) when they die, you need work on improving on your aptitude. Rest implies the ability to wake on your own after you slumber. Don’t you think if they could get up from that pine box they would?

If your Bible, Qur’an, Book of the dead or whatever else, still has the sticker price on it and look like it is as new as the day you purchased it ten years ago, you probably don’t have a religion.

If you take everything your minister tells you for face value, then you are on a one-way ticket to Hades. Ignorance will be held accountable in the after life. Being mentally deficient is one thing, being flat out ignorant is something altogether different.

For you Muslims, Buddhist, Hindus, Atheists, Agnostics, etc. if you make the sign of the crucifix when you pass a cemetery or funeral procession you need to check yourself. It would appear that you are outwardly ready to abandon your faith and pick up someone else’s; the same applies for celebrating Christmas, Easter, Palm Sunday, and every other holiday not associated with your own religion.

Last but not least, don’t wait to you get to jail to start talking about “I always wanted to know about Islam, Five Percent and all of those other religions that are used by scared individuals as a shield to protect their ass when they get locked up. The wise see right through that. You want to be Amber, or born freedom Farrakhan Allah in jail and Damon Jones when you hit the bricks. To all my brothers on lock down who are serious about their beliefs, deal with those brothers when they get in!!!
